Il generale Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa per non deludere la “gente onesta” combatte con determinazione la criminalità organizzata e muore, barbaramente ucciso dalla mafia, il 3 settembre 1982.
Il giorno dopo vicino al luogo dell’attentato viene affissa questa scritta: « Qui è morta la speranza dei palermitani onesti. »
A trent’anni dalla sua morte Acquappesa dedica al generale l’ex piazza Timponello.
La cerimonia si è svolta questa mattina, mercoledì 28 novembre, alla presenza delle autorità militari civili e religiose. Suggestivo ed emozionante il momento in cui il sindaco e il capitano dei carabinieri, insieme, hanno scoperto la lapide con il nome nuovo della piazza.
Presente, a nome del vescovo, il vicario generale della diocesi Monsignor 
Emilio Servidio, che ha benedetto la piazza i cittadini e la lapide con la scritta “piazza Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa”.
I vari interventi che sono seguiti hanno ricordato la memoria di questo garnde servitore della Patria.
