Alle cinque del mattino la chiesetta di Acquappesa era piena di pellegrini riuniti in preghiera per l’inizio del tradizionale pellegrinaggio a piedi al santuario di S. Francesco.
Dopo la benedizione del parroco un centinaio di persone provenienti da tutte le zone della parrocchia e da Cetraro iniziavano a camminare sotto un cielo ancora stellato, che ben presto lasciava spazio a un tiepido e piacevole sole.
Lungo il percorso il gruppo diventava più numeroso con i pellegrini che si aggiungevano ad Intavolata e a Guardia marina.
Sulla superstrada sempre trafficata è difficile tenere unito il gruppo, ma grazie al servizio d’ordine svolto con generosità e professionalità dal comandante dei vigili Lino Maritato e dai vigili Stefano e Mario, intorno alla ore 9.00 ci ritroviamo tutti davanti al piazzale del Santuario.
A Lino e ai vigili un doveroso grazie per il lavoro impagabile svolto; un grazie anche ai carabinieri che ci hanno scortato fino a Fuscaldo.
Alle ore 10.00 tutti i pellegrini hanno partecipato con devozione alla S. Messa celebrata nella nuova Basilica, dove ci hanno raggiunto con le macchine molti parenti e amici dei pellegrini.
